“Silence,” a pencil drawing work.
My work often deals with issues that I'm very sensitized about, such as mistreatment, silence, abuse, abandonment, loneliness, and woman violence. I am an incredibly visceral person, and in many ways, I put myself wholeheartedly into each design.
I always try to convey my feelings and emotions through my art. My artwork “Silence,” otherwise called "No Comment," presents one of the most worldwide severe issues we must confront and take collective responsibility for. Child abuse. We must be acknowledging that it happens every day and that we must talk about it. Societal silence on child abuse protects perpetrators and enables abuse to continue. We all have a role in protecting children.
Silence speaks in an abstract and very emotional language in this painting. Feelings are powerful and intensive. A man’s hand, holding a child. The link between shapes and meanings is so clear. It presents very definite forms in an apparent state. I’m using a pencil because I wanted to control my line weight and emphasize the primary forms. I’m transferring the sensitivity of the moment by creating lighting in contrast to very dark and thicker lines, where I’m conveying the 3D shape and focusing on my main goal; to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully and discover what emotions, sensations, or memories emerge. I want to communicate with my audience and invite them to find the meaning behind the aesthetic.
